1859 View of New York, Brooklyn and Williamsburg

1859 View of New York, Brooklyn and Williamsburg

from $19.99

1859 illustration by John Bachman, “Bird’s Eye View of the City of New York.”

This unique view is centered from the Wallabout Bay (future home of the Brooklyn Navy Yard) and looks towards Manhattan with the independent city of Brooklyn on the left and Williamsburg on the right. Fort Greene Park is seen on the immediate left as is Union Square, Madison Square, and Tompkins Square in Manhattan. The unbuilt Central Park with its reservoir is also seen in the distance, surrounded by a greatly undeveloped upper Manhattan.
